The Beautiful and The Damned

This story takes place in New York. Anthony Patch, the main character in this story is young man and well educated, but doesn’t have real job. He also has a very wealthy grandfather who is a successful businessman. He is going to die soon, his name is Adam Patch. Anthony always thinking of his grandfather’s money and waiting his death. If his grandfather dies soon, he would be rich. He would have millions of dollars.

Then Anthony meets the most beautiful woman in the city, he falls in love. She is Gloria Gilbert. She is his friend’s cousin, Dick Caramel. But then Anthony knows that she has bad temper, spoilt, glamour and selfish. She is very frightened to become old. She wants her pretty face never-ending, never old. After a wonderful courtship they marry and the party really begins. Sometime, they quarreled each other. They always invite their friends and spend much money to party, dancing, and drinking alcohols in their home every night. Because there’s nothing else they can do.

Like usual, they hold drinking party and invite their friends. The room is full of smoke and alcohol scent. When they all enjoy the party, suddenly there is old man, standing with his stick in the open doorway. He is Adam Patch ! His face is hard and angry. It makes him go back without any words. Anthony knows that his grandfather really hates smoke, drink, and drunkenness more than anything else in the world. He must apologize to him.

The parties make them lost of money, now they only have six hundred dollars. So they sell their house and rent small apartment in poorer part of city. Then when he read news, his grandfather is in dangerous ill. Anthony wants to see him, but Adam Patch wouldn’t see him. Lastly, Adam Patch died. Anthony and Gloria wait to hear how much money Adam Patch had left them in his will. A week passed, but they hear nothing. In point of fact, his grandfather cut him out from his will and will give it to charities. It makes Anthony go to lawyer to fight and change the will.

Months later, there still no news about the change. And now they only have very little money. They use almost all of their money to pay the lawyer. Anthony got little mad and becomes worse and worse. If he has some money, he will get drunk. But, three weeks later, the case of Adam Patch’s will ends. They have won ! They rich now with thirty million dollars.
